Join us for the Connecting the Dots through Culture - On Country Learning Experience to learn how you can embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into your everyday practice.

Day 1: Friday, 20 September 2024   

  • Townsville Black Coffee: Begin your day with a networking session over coffee, where you can connect with fellow educators and community leaders.  
  • Welcome to Country & Keynote Address: Be inspired by Aunty Sharron mirii Bell as she shares profound insights on her Aboriginal knowledge and its integration into modern education, setting the tone for meaningful community connections.  
  • Truth Telling Panels: Engage in honest and impactful discussions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, providing you with the knowledge and context to foster understanding and respect in your classrooms.  
  • Black Markets: Experience the vibrancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures firsthand at the Black Markets, where you can connect with local artisans and explore traditional crafts, art, and food.  

 

Day 2: Saturday, 21 September 2024   

  • Weaving & Connecting to Aboriginal Traditional Experiences: Participate in hands-on workshops where you'll learn how to weave Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into your programs and practices. From traditional weaving activities to art and painting sessions, these experiences will equip you with practical tools to connect your students to Indigenous heritage.  
  • Traditional Experiences & Yarning Circles: Immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through interactive sessions that include music, dance, and yarning circles, offering a powerful way to connect to community stories and values.  
  • Conference Dinner & Cultural Performances: Conclude Day 2 with a traditional dinner and vibrant performances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancing, celebrating the connections made and the knowledge gained.  

 

Day 3: Sunday, 22 September 2024   

  • Yarning Circle & Walk On Country: Begin the day with a yarning circle, followed by a walk on Country, offering you the chance to connect deeply with the land and its stories.  
  • Weaving Your Learning into Everyday Practice: Continue the dialogue in a yarning circle focused on how to integrate what you’ve learned into your everyday teaching practice.  
  • Drumming Circle & Close: Conclude the event with a drumming circle, a powerful and unifying experience that brings the event to a close.
