The Warup/Kundu is a stunning hourglass-shaped drum from the Torres Strait Islands, Papua New Guinea, and West Papua. Made from hollowed wood with a stretched snake or goanna skin top, it’s tuned with beeswax and played while sitting, standing, or dancing. Used in traditional dances, ceremonies, and church services, it holds deep cultural significance. Originating in the PNG highlands, it made its way to the Torres Strait and Cape York through trade.
