Educators committed to providing a respectful and authentic experience to their Future Old People, their Families, the People around them, and their Community must know that there is a distinct difference between the two experiences/offerings.
Both gestures, a Welcome to Country or an Acknowledgment of Country, are important steps towards reconciliation, respect, and understanding. They create a space for reflection on the past and present relationship between Aboriginal peoples, Torres Strait Islander peoples, and non-Indigenous Australians and serve as reminders of the need for ongoing efforts towards reconciliation and justice for all Australians.
